A downloadable game for Windows

Synopsis

Garden of Moving Things is a narrative, point-and-click adventure inspired by classics of the genre such as "Loom", "Legend of Kyrandia", and "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis".

You play as high-schooler Iona Saint-Germaine, one of a handful of survivors of a catastrophic event that has destroyed the city and somehow created a reality where the flow of time fluctuates and people are infected with "bugs" that run like software on the brain. While these bugs mostly cause afflictions such as memory loss, paralysis, and even multiple personalities, Iona is somehow able to "download" bugs from other people and invert their effects to gain new abilities such as hyperfocus, flight, and even speaking to animals. With the help of her fellow survivors and her mother, a scientist and researcher who may know more than she's telling, Iona must use her new powers to find secrets, solve puzzles, collect items, and discover the root cause of the Event before time unravels completely.

Highlights

  • A deep, engrossing sci-fi story with tons of secrets to discover and items to find.
  • Classic pixel-art style with a modern-day aesthetic including reflections and shadows.
  • Meet a cast of interesting characters. Learn about who they are to discover more of the story.  Help them with their afflictions to earn new abilities and cosmetic rewards.
  • Beautiful, atmospheric soundtrack, plus bonus tracks from local bands hailing from Boston, Providence, and Denver.
  • Multiple endings based on your decisions.
  • Achievements (not available in demo).

To Play

Download zip file and extract contents to a new folder, then run the file GOMT.exe.

You can check which version of the game you are running by looking at the version number in the bottom-right corner of the main menu. If an update is available, you will also see this indicated underneath the version number. Clicking on the version number in-game will automatically open the game's itch.io page in a new browser window so you can download the newest version.

To Update

Extract contents of new version to the same folder where your current version resides, making sure to overwrite all files. Note that your save game files will remain unaffected by updating to a new version.

Just finished the demo and I don't even know where to begin the compliments. The writing is so good. Not just the story, which is excellent, but the individual conversations are so well written, and the characters are really compelling. And the art is beautiful (downtown especially looks gorgeous). And the sound design is perfect; the intermittent roll of thunder gave me chills. And there's so much depth - I was not expecting the sheer number of things I could look at or interact with. It gave me Quest for Glory flashbacks in the best way.

No notes. Can't wait to see the full game and find out what the hell is going on and (hopefully) fix the world!

Thank you very much! I'm so happy you enjoyed it, and I'm truly humbled by your feedback. :)

Loving the game so far! The art, sound affects and story details are so compelling. My husband and I have been playing for hours. We are stuck at the "gain Maya's trust" portion though and are not sure how else to continue.

Wow, thank you so much for playing and for your feedback! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Regarding the puzzle you're stuck on, a few questions/clues:

1. Have you revealed all the crayon colors in the box? (Not the missing crayons, just the white ones that were already there when you found the box).

2. Have you asked "Erevyn" about Castelyn? Did she give a description of what she was wearing the last time she saw her?

3. How does that compare to the warrior drawing in Maya's sketch book?

Hopefully that's enough of a nudge to move you forward. If you're still stuck, let me know!

cool thanks for the hints!

We do think we also may have stumbled into a bug of sorts because we were so stuck we decided just to start over but ended up with the same inventory items and abilities we had already gained which caused a weird glitch where we were stuck in our room with a dead phone we couldn't answer.

Hm, interesting. When you say started over, did you actually go to New Game and start fresh, or just load a previous save game?

We went to the menu and selected New Game and started fresh.

Aha! Found it :) The fix for this will be included in the next patch being released this weekend. Thanks for your help with this!

i don't want to post too many details so no one sees the puzzle answer but I think we're still having some issues. We updated the game with the last patch and started fresh but we're stuck at gain Maya's trust again.

We found all the crayon colors, we asked about Castelyn and we even got the prompt that says the sketch matches the description and showed it to Maya but our task will not update to say we've gained maya's trust.

Any suggestions?

Do we maybe need to uninstall and then reinstall the game again if it's possibly still saved the older version on us though we saved the new update by replacing the old files in our zip folder.

If the version in the bottom-right of the main menu says v1.0.0.5, then there's no need to reinstall the game.  In the sketch, what color are the sword and bell she's holding? Those each need to be a specific color to solve the puzzle.

Wait, sorry no. I think I know what's happening.

So, without giving too much away, the illustration notes offer clues to what a few of the colors are, but copying the notes exactly is actually NOT the solution to the puzzle. :) You're on the right track, but don't worry about making the sketch match Maya's version of Castelyn. Who else does the sketch look like?
